2026 Barbarian Calendar — MUTUAL AID

Our 2026 calendar is inspired by Peter Kropotkin’s book Mutual Aid: A factor of Evolution. The first time I read Mutual Aid, I was surprised that so much of its content was about animals. It’s easy to forget how intertwined our lives are on this fragile planet. As Kropotkin observes, on a long scale of survival, we (inhabitants of this planet) are much more inclined towards helping each other and finding ways to live in harmony rather than competing for scraps until we cease to exist. We hope the animals in the illustrations can help kindle this idea.

In the midst of the most blatant and live-streamed genocide of our lives, Palestinians in Gaza are still finding ways to care for each other, resist, and even laugh in the face of utter greed, racism and fascism. We try to look towards our siblings in Palestine not from a place of helplessness, but of inspiration and tangible solidarity. We follow the Palestinian determination and struggle for freedom. Together we can make a better world based in mutual aid, starting with abolishing the zionist entity once and for all.

Bridge of Solidarity is an anti-capitalist mutual aid organization founded in Gaza by Yazan, in Al Mawasi, Khan Younis.
All money goes directly to people in need of support, and none is kept for Yazan or other volunteers. 
These efforts are focused on the most marginalized in Gaza most at risk of dying: people without phones, English skills, social media, wealthy relatives, outside support, and living relatives. 
These efforts actively combat genocide capitalism with mutual aid, and violent “survival of the fittest” ways of turning on each other with collective care. 
These efforts also actively combat the ways Palestininas are turned into a spectacle by the English speaking world and West, and are forced into performing on social media in a pity economy and attention economy, always have to compete with each other. 

2026年のバーバリアンカレンダーは、地理学者、革命家、思想家のピーター・クロポトキン著『相互扶助論—進化の一要因』がインスピレーションです。この本を読んで、内容の大部分が動物についてだったことに驚きました。この壊れてしまいそうな地球上でどれだけの命が絡み合って生存しているのか、私たち人間はすぐに忘れてしまいます。クロポトキンは「相互扶助は人間の意識を通じて創り出されたのではなく、動物の本能にもとづいて生まれた」としており、私たち(地球上の動物)はお互いの存在を打ち消し合うまで競争するよりも、調和し共生する方法を見つけるために助け合う本能を持っていると考えています。このカレンダーに描いた動物たちが、私たちの内側にあるその感覚に、ぽっと小さなひかりを灯してくれますように。

現在進行形で起きているジェノサイドの中、 醜い欲と差別とファシズムに直面しながら、ガザに暮らすパレスチナ人たちはお互いを支え合い、抵抗し、笑顔でいられる方法を日々探し続けています。パレスチナに暮らす兄妹たちを見つめる時、私たちはどうにもできない無力感ではなくインスピレー
ションと確実な連帯の上に立っています。パレスチナの人々の決意と自由のための闘争。相互扶助の考えを元に、私たちは一緒に少しでもより良い世界を作っていけるはず。 そのための一歩として、まずはシオニスト国家を永遠に廃絶することが必要です。
